Perry Mason Mystery : The Case of the Lucky Loser by Erle Stanley Gardner

Rating : 6 / 10

I love Perry Mason because of the courtroom battles, the way he questions the witnesses and brings out important facts about the crime. But the last few books that I’ve read have been disappointing in that regard. None of them have involved much of courtroom scenes and most of the time Mason is involved in crime solving (unlike a lawyer) just like any other detective story. But there is one thing that I love about Gardner’s stories – The killer is usually a person deeply involved in the case and not a guy who suddenly comes to the scene right at the end (which happens in most other murder mysteries that I’ve read).
The Case of the Lucky Loser can be described as a regular work of Gardner, expect that in this case he mixes up a small love story angle to it too. It is a sweet love story and it sure adds flavour to the whole scene. As always the ending is sudden and as striking as possible.
Overall, a good book, but an ardent fan of mystery books may not like the plot too much.
