The Change of Objectives

My first idea for creating this blog was to save the stories/plots of the books that I read. But after writing about ten posts in this blog, I realized that the plots/summary of all the novels that I read, are given on some website or the other (a lot of them are available on en.wikipedia.org). So, I decided to change the very objective of the blog. From now onwards, I would be writing only about the views/feelings/thoughts that I had while reading these books. It will also consist of a rating of the book on a scale of 1-10.
So, this blog can now be read and understood only by anyone who has read the book that is being talked about.

Rating : 9 / 10 Those who have read Timeline may not have found it good enough to be given a nine out of ten. But with a person like me, who loves science fiction and has been reading murder mysteries for a long time now, Timeline came as a really good break. The book is based on the well known concept of parallel universes born from the two slit experiment (in optics) and what happens when just one photon incident on any one of the slits. The scientists (in the book) have found a way to use these concepts to help achieve time travel, especially to times in the past. Although nothing much was given about whether this machine could help in traveling into the future as well or not, but I guess the author intentionally avoided that confusion. The leading characters of this story go back into time in 1357 in the middle of the Hundred Years’ War in Europe. Perry Mason Mystery : The Case of the Dangerous Dowager by Erle Stanley Gardner

Rating : 6 / 10 It is difficult for me to get back to murder mysteries again but I guess for the time being I can read a few of them to get a feel of what most people love to read. Another Perry Mason, and this one is much more exciting, with much more action. In trying to save his client, Perry Mason assists in committing a small crime, and is now on the run. He chooses strange places to hide and keeps working on the case even when he is on the run. After reading so many Perry Mason mysteries some of the details now seem to be very odd. Perry Mason is able to ditch out his tail very easily but when he is tailing anyone, the person is just unable to ditch him no matter what he/she does! Also, this was the first book which made me feel how long back these books were written. There seem to be no mobiles. A lot of people can open bank accounts very easily by forging their names (which I certainly believe is not so easy these days). Gardner wrote them sometime in 1920s and even certain law...

Five Little Pigs by Agatha Christie

Rating – 7 / 10 After being let down completely by Agatha Christie’s "And then there were none", I had decided never to read another book by Agatha Christie again. But after hearing numerous praises of this book from two of my cousins, I finally decided to go through another one and I must say that this time, I was not disappointed. This book is very much a regular murder mystery with Hercule Poirot as the crime solving detective. The case is of a 20 year old murder case in which a woman was falsely acquitted, who later died in prison. In her last letter to her daughter, this woman had said that she was innocent. And so, now after 20 long years, the case in reopened and Poirot is assigned to it. Hercule Poirot relies only on psychology and his intuitions to get to the actual criminal which is very beautifully depicted.
