Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Hogwarts is supposed to organize a grand event, the Triwizard Tournament. Two other schools, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, are also supposed to participate in this tournament. One champion from each school is chosen to compete in the tournament. The champions selected are –
Cedric Diggory – Hogwarts
Fleur Delacour – Beauxbatons
Viktor Krum - Durmstrang
At the ceremony, Harry’s name also pops out of the Goblet as the fourth champion so now Harry is forced to participate in the tournament.
The first task is to tame a dragon and steal the egg that it is protecting. Harry is able to do this easily and with maximum points.
The second task is to rescue one’s best friend from the Mer-people. Harry saves two people in the task and again receives maximum points.
The third task is to reach to the Triwizard Cup which is placed in the middle of a maze. Harry and Cedric reach the Cup together but as soon as they touch the cup, they are transported to a graveyard. The Cup was actually a portkey, which was placed there by Barty Crouch Jr. (who is posing as Mad Eye Moody – the defense against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts). Barty was one of the most loyal supporters of Voldemort and had planned to transport Harry straight into Voldemort’s hands by helping Harry win the Tournament.
Now, with Harry and Cedric standing helplessly in the graveyard, Voldemort appears with his servant Pettigrew and kills Cedric. Next, they catch Harry and with the help of Harry’s blood Voldemort returns to power again. The night when Harry’s parents were attacked, Harry’s mother had sacrificed her life to give Harry a protection of “love” such that Voldemort was not able to touch Harry and that is why the Death curse had bounced back from Harry and hit Voldemort. But now with Harry’s blood flowing in Voldemort, that protection was no longer there. Voldemort now challenges Harry for a duel but Harry escapes by reaching for the cup again and transporting himself back to his school.
Dumbledore then tries to capture Barty Crouch Jr., but Barty is killed by a Dementor.

This is the longest of all the Harry Potter books so far. It is also the most darkest of them all as for the first time, Rowling kills one of the good characters in the story, Cedric Diggory. The book also hints at the future romance between Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.
The book ends with Voldemort back in full power and threatening to take back control and push the wizarding world in complete jeopardy.
